Okemos, Michigan— Due to an overwhelming need in the communities it serves, the Delta Dental Foundation upped its giving by $100,000 to assist those who have been hit hardest by the coronavirus pandemic.
The COVID-19 Emergency Assistance Fund was opened in March with $500,000 but because more than 350 worthy applications were received, the budget was increased to $600,000.
Funding was awarded to 135 organizations across Michigan, Ohio and Indiana, including primary care associations, which oversee federally qualified health centers; dental school clinics; food banks; homeless shelters; hospitals and other community organizations that provide basic health and human services.
Each recipient received a supply of toothbrushes and oral health educational resources to help locate providers who are open for dental emergencies.
